Sorry- this journal is suppose to be for CJ 511 and I posted it for CJ 521. I'm all confused- so I'm posting it on both forums!!

Looking back and reviewing Module 1 and reviewing others journals, I see a connection between Theory and the incident that happened to the NMSU Grad student this past week. As I was reading someone's journal, I found myself realizing that everyone, myself included, theorizes about why things happen and what happened to the Grad Student. Some of us in class have also theorized about possible scenarios that led to her death. Now why do we do this? As we have learned in class theory attempts to explain things and in fact, reflects one's beliefs. Though we may not have any validation for some of our theories, being open-minded about theories broadens our knowlegde and allows us to determine what is logical and what isn't. There are a lot of rumors about her lifestyle, as another journal noted, but without proof we have transformed a rumor to a theory, and that is where we must step back and determine what we are willing to believe.

I think that this class has been very interesting so far, simply because we are surrounded by theory in our lives. I mean, there are so many theories on how man came to be- meaning evolution or God, etc.

I hope that justice comes to whoever murdered the Grad student and that this incident serves a valuable lesson to all others.
